Saturday 20th June brought plenty of energy, activity and community spirit to Upton Country Park for a fantastic day of cycling, sport and outdoor fun. Visitors were able to get their bikes checked by the Bike Doctor, have them security marked for free by our local Neighbourhood Police Team, and take on the British Cycling timed trials — a course that proved to be quite the challenge!
There was something for everyone to try, from Councillor Mark Watson’s ever-popular cricket and catching games to soft archery with Sport4Fitness. Guests also had the opportunity to test out a disability and adaptive bike, helping make the day welcoming and accessible for more riders.
It was brilliant to see such strong female representation too, with the ladies from Breeze Bike Rides and T1 Rugby both on hand to offer friendly taster sessions and encourage anyone interested in giving something new a go.
A big thank you goes to Councillor Colin Hull for arranging the event in collaboration with Dave Watson, British Cycling and WNC Community Developer. Thanks also to Councillors Alan Bottwood, Mike Caddy, Pauline Goodley, Andrew Holt, Matthew Kineton and Michael Warnes, who all came along to join in the fun and support a lively, active and thoroughly enjoyable day in the park.
