Princess Marina Hospital was also built on the St Crispin site. It was one of the last NHS hospitals to be built for people with learning disabilities, and it was only in use from 1972 to 1995. At the time of being built it was very light and modern, with low level, bright and light buildings. However, like St Crispin’s, it became associated with an outmoded model of care. It has been completely demolished and the site redeveloped for modern housing. A trace of it can be seen in a few of the road names, which have used the names of previous wards: for example, Bronte, Austen and Jennings.
